Meet Me In Cockleberry Bay by Nicola May
2nd book in series (but it is stand alone)
Publication Date: 5th July 2019
Genre: Romantic Comedy

Synopsis:

The cast of the runaway bestseller, The Corner Shop in Cockleberry Bay, are back – including Rosa, Josh, Mary, Jacob, Sheila, new mum Titch and, last but by no means least, Hot, the adorable dachshund.

Newly wed, and with her inherited corner shop successfully up and running, Rosa Smith seems to have all that anyone could wish for. But the course of true love never did run smooth and Rosa’s suspicions that her husband is having an affair have dire consequences.

Reaching rock bottom before she can climb back up to the top, fragile Rosa is forced to face her fears, addiction and jealousy head on.

With a selection of meddling locals still at large, a mystery fire and Titch’s frantic search for the real father of her sick baby, the second book in this enchanting series will take you on a further unpredictable journey of self-discovery.

Excerpt:

Rosa meeting a new character in the Bay

Rosa looked around to see that every table in Coffee, Tea or Sea was full. She loved this little café. She had come here a lot when she first moved in, mainly to use the free wi-fi and because the excellent coffee was only £2 a cup and worth every penny. The place was completely dog-friendly, which made it perfect. The quirkiness here suited Rosa’s style, for the shelves were adorned with seaside-themed knick-knacks, plus a variety of books were dotted around everywhere, accompanied by an old battered sign announcing Read me, Replace me, Replenish me.  Despite it being early November, on the counter there was already a lit-up reindeer sporting a Christmas hat, being kept company by a ceramic burlesque dancer money box, holding a sign that said Nice Tips. Rosa had seen them on her very first visit to the café last year. Titch had worked here back then too. There was also the added advantage of a view over the beach. Hence why it was usually packed to the rafters, even out of season.

Rosa hoped Mary hadn’t taken real offence when she’d said that she had always dreamt of running a little café. Rosa hadn’t wanted to seem ungrateful about inheriting the Corner Shop; it was just she did like the idea of the buzz and excitement that running a place like this would bring.

‘Penny for them?’

‘Sorry?’ Rosa looked up to see a broad auburn-haired man, with thick-framed brown glasses and a short pointy beard looking down at her. He was taller than Josh and with Josh being six-feet two, that was tall!

‘Do you mind if I sit here?’

‘Of course not,’ she lied, and put her bag down beside her, causing Hot to make a funny snuffling noise, before going straight back to sleep on her feet.

‘I reckon everyone must have been in the Ship last night for the grand re-opening,’ the stranger remarked.

‘Er . . . yes.’ Rosa, whose head was banging, was in no mood for polite chit-chat. She had only come in here to use the toilet after walking Hot on the beach, but then realised that a bacon sandwich and a cup of strong coffee would see her fit to open the shop. Titch had had the foresight to book the day off today, and Rosa really had to get herself together as Josh would be back this evening too.

The big man put his coffee and Danish pastry down on the table, then held out his hand. ‘I’m Alec, by the way,’ he said, introducing himself. ‘Alec Burton.’

          ‘I’m Rosa.’

The big man had noticed her London accent straight away.

‘I’m not from down here either,’ he confided. ‘I’ve lived all over the place, but most recently Windsor in Berkshire. Do you know it?’

‘Only because of the Queen and her castle there. And because of Harry, Meghan and Archie.’ Rosa felt a bit queasy.

‘Anyway, I’ll leave you to your thoughts.’  The newcomer opened his leather

man bag, pulled out a newspaper and began to read.

Rosa reckoned he must be forty-odd years old, and despite his size he had a very calming demeanour and presence. Remembering how hard it had been to fit in when she had first arrived, she didn’t want to come across as unfriendly. It was time to make a bit of an effort.

‘My thoughts are probably the same as everyone else’s who was there at the

Ship last night,’ she replied. ‘In other words: how exactly am I going to get through the day with a hangover like this?’

Auburn Alec’s open face lit up, even his teeth were big. Rosa didn’t dare

check out his feet.
